Ever wanted to know about British Postal Boxes?

Hint, it’s much different than our boring US boxes. Read about it here. In the United States, mail boxes are always the standard box that we consider as normal. With the UK still under a monarchical system, it makes sense that things are generally changed around whoever is in power. I found it pretty fascinating.

Here’s an interesting story from one of the blogs I follow.

I found this interesting, because this could have directly impacted the issues of slavery in general. I know it’s not related to my other posts, but, since this is a specifically “random” blog, it fits. Who knows what type of impact you may have on history in general?

“Dido” Elizabeth Belle was a bi-racial woman born into slavery in 1761 in the West Indies, the daughter of a slave woman, Maria Belle and a British career naval officer, John Lindsay, who was stationed there. While the details of their relationship are unknown, Lindsay was transferred back to Britain in 1765 and took the […]

What did Hitler consider his “bible” and one of the foundations of his theories of eugenics AND part of his reasoning for the horrors experienced by German Jews in World War II

Madison Grant’s “The Passing of the Great Race”. While he was in prison he studied this book in depth and even added many of the ideas extolled in the book about the superiority of the Nordic race and the inferiority of everyone else to his book Mein Kampf.

Does this sound like Hitler’s work? “The cross between a white man and an Indian is an Indian; the cross between a white man and a negro is a negro… When it becomes thoroughly understood that the children of mixed marriages between contrasted races belong to the lower type, the importance of transmitting in unimpaired purity the blood inheritance of ages will be appreciated at its full value.” Nope, it’s not. This is taken straight out of Madison’s book. Do you see where and why Hitler was so excited about this?

Eugenics according to Dictionary.com consists of thinking that improving the human race by encouraging “desirable individuals with the right genetic and physical characteristics” to marry each other and procreate as much as possible to help purify the genetic pool. The awful side of this argument is that those considered “undesirable”, such as unwed mothers, dual race marriages, delinquent behavior and mental instability or deficiency are not encouraged to have children. Conversely, these members of the human race are to be sterilized and refused permission to breed because that taints the genetic pool

If you want to do a little digging, here’s where I got my information. Don’t worry though, I will discuss all of this in depth in the next few days. It’s disgusting to me, but necessary to realize so that we do not repeat ANY of it in the present or the future.

Today’s post welcomes you to my site! I have loved history for years and have wanted to write about it and here’s my chance! Expect at least one or more posts a week on various topics to include all history from all areas on the globe. I work towards making sure that all information I use is either well renowned in academic circles, or a legitimate news organization. I will draw from the Census Bureau, PBS, college and university websites, and any type of scholarly research. I plan on covering as much as I can and will work towards keeping a generally organized set of posts, or if I’m too random, eventually I will work towards an effective organizational strategy.

Right now, I’ve been studying eugenics in the US and how it was used as a model in Nazi Germany. Very few realize that in the US, thousands of people were forcibly sterilized simply because they were pregnant too young or unmarried. It’s disgusting and unacceptable. I will go into detail at some point in the future, but that’s what I’m working on right now. I hope you’re able to learn something. Don’t rely on just me though. Check this stuff out yourself!
